12.10.24 - Barmouth Beckons Again

This was the previous night's sky at Srathalyn, which bodes well for a cold but dry day to ride tomorrow...

A lovely day of 2 halves; initially we left in bright blue skies, a little chilly, but essentially a perfect riding day. The roads were dry and quiet, we were following the original plan, then unusually PC messed up the sat nav and didn't trust it so we varied the way to Barmouth through Bala, as opposed to carrying on the Hirnant, Vywny and down the A470.

Not problem, we still rode two of our favourite rides an any case, but PC doesn't like to mess the original route up going back to Penybontfawr and riding over the B4391 through the Milltir Cerritos view point. From Bala to Dolgellau down the sweeping A494, before crossing the rickety old wooden Penmeanpool toll bridge (50p still)

Got to Barmouth and Davy Jones Locker and had a wonderful chilli and chips, Mrs C having her own this time (without the chips)

We then left Barmouth with the skies looking a little blacker than they were when we went into the cafe. Travelling up towards Harlech on the A496, an old favourite of ours, as you're treated to amazing views of the Llyn Peninsular, we were discussing over the intercom on how glad that they weren't going over Snowdon as the skies were black and you could see rain storms forming.

Spoke too soon, the rains hit us near Harlech.

Turning south on the A470 and left onto the A4212 to get back home as straight as the crow flies - no messing about, head down into the storm and home as fast as possible.

We were freezing cold, shivering and miserable sat in the GL trying to warm up. Well we weren't miserable, just cold and wet.

Still, having a wet cold day on a bike is better than a warm day not on a bike.
