09.11.24 Last Pizza ride of the year (probably)
We finally managed to stop at Caffi Glan Yr Afon for the first time after riding the A544 from Denbigh. The café is small and a bit scruffy, but by the time we left, every table was taken, and there were people waiting to get in – it's clearly very popular, especially with bikers. Of course, we always greet other bikers, but there was one from Liverpool who just couldn’t stop talking! Seriously, he never paused for breath!!
Anyway, enough of that – we had a lovely cup of tea and coffee, then headed off to meet Dani, Steff, and Gethin in Betws.
Forgotten how really great the A548 is. lovely bends, quick road, scenery beautiful - other than a young nutter in a red car that had decided to overtake in the wrong place and a stupid person going far too quickly over the hI’d forgotten how great the A548 is – beautiful bends, a fast road, and stunning scenery. That said, there was a bit of a headache with a young idiot in a red car who tried to overtake in the wrong spot, and another reckless driver speeding over the humpback bridge in Llanrwst, both of whom forced us to take evasive action!
We got to Betws in the sunshine and had pizza at Hangin’ Pizzeria – honestly, you won’t find a better pizza anywhere. The little Grrrrrandsprog is a big pizza fan – just like Steff, he can demolish one in no time! A lovely 45-minute stop before getting back on the road.
Leaving Betws and heading towards Ffestiniog on one of our top three favorite roads in Wales, we decided to mix things up a bit. Instead of the usual route to Bala, we took the B4407 to Ysbyty Ifan, a road we don’t ride often but really should, because it’s fantastic. It’s a narrow mountain road with a great surface, and the white lines on both sides give it that feeling of riding on a Scalextric track!
Once we hit the A5, we just powered through home via Llangollen, and by then, the temperature was definitely starting to drop. Another brilliant day out.
